Water Year Data - Colorado Water is the lifeblood of Colorado. We track the accumulation of water starting on October 1 each year, which is defined the beginning of the water year.
The data files included in "Quick Links" provide monthly precipitation totals for our climate monitoring stations which include both National Weather Service cooperative stations, NRCS Snotel stations and NCDC Climate Reference Network (CRN) stations. The page heading indicates what water year is being represented. For each station the following data is provided: Line one: Current year monthly precipitation starting with October. Please note decimals are not used, divide by 100 to convert to hundredths of inches. Line two: Normal precipitation (30 year average 1971-2000) for the given month. Please note decimals are not used, divide by 100 to convert to hundredths of inches. Line three: Precipitation percentage of normal for the current month (current/normal*100). Line four: Accumulated monthly precipitation through the water year. Please note decimals are not used, divide by 100 to convert to hundredths of inches. Line five: Accumulated normal water year precipitation. Please note decimals are not used, divide by 100 to convert to hundredths of inches. Line six: Water year precipitation percentage of normal.
